Best places to eat in Caye Caulker (cheap eats!)

After spending one week in the beautiful island of Belize and trying plenty of places to eat in Caye Caulker, we decided to make a list of our favourite ones. Keep reading because you are about to find out the best places to eat in Caye Caulker, what to try in each place and how much you will spend. Yes, the best places were among the cheap eats in Caye Caulker. So, let’s dive in!

Travel to Greece!

LOCATION

Chef Kareem’s Unbelizable Lunch.

Hands down, the best lunch we had in Caye Caulker. It is the first on our list of the best places to eat in Caye Caulker and not by chance. The grilled lobster is so yummy. Tender and super fresh, with melted butter and spices. The lobster comes with rice and a small salad. Chef Kareem’s Unbelizable Lunch has also BBQ chicken, which was also very tasty and we strongly recommend it. To be honest, everything we tried in this place was more than satisfying. Keep in mind that it is basically a stall on the side of the road, so there is no space to sit. You just take your food to go. We took our lunch and ate it at the balcony of our beautiful place, Colindas Cabanas (you should check it!). The prices are descent too. A whole fresh lobster with some rice and salad costed approximately 10-12 euros. The BBQ chicken with some rice and salad costed 5-6 euros.

Reina’s Caye Caulker.

Reina’s is a small locally owned restaurant, great for dinner. The place is not fancy, but we really liked the food and that is why we included it in our ‘best places to eat in Caye Caulker’ list. There are only a few tables and it looked like there was only one man doing everything, so you need to be a little patient if the place is full. We tried the lobster, the seafood curry, and the chicken curry. We really liked the seafood curry – and the chicken! We highly recommend trying it; Very aromatic and with a sufficient portion of seafood. It was served with rice and it was fulfilling. The drinks are descent too at Reina’s. The cost of the curry seafood was 12 euros and of the chicken approximately 7 euros.

Chef Juan Caye Caulker.

Another locally owned small restaurant, with a better ambiance from Reina’s but still with just a few tables. You can go there for lunch or breakfast (we think they close at 20.00). We tried the chicken curry, which was not as good as Reina’s. You will then wonder why we included it in our ‘best places to eat in Caye Caulker’ list… Well, Chef Juan makes an incredible key lime pie. We visited this place for the key lime pie almost every day. Sometimes it was too fresh to remove from the oven pan, so we needed to go back. And we did! A piece of key lime pie (good portion) costed approximately 3 euros.

Pelican Sunset Bar.

We don’t know if this is the best place to eat in Caye Caulker, but it is the best spot to have a cocktail and enjoy the sunset. We actually ate there too, and the food was good, but the highlight was the ceviche. Go there an hour before sunset, order a ceviche, a couple of beers, or a cocktail and let the magic happen. This blog post is about food so we will focus a little more on that matter. The ceviche was a generous portion, accompanied with tortilla chips (or nachos? Can’t be sure about that). The mixed ceviche has shrimp, fish, lobster, octopus or calamari and costs 25 Belizean Dollars.

Errolyn’s House of Fryjacks.

This place is breakfast-only. It is open from 6am to 11am and it is included in our ‘best places to eat in Caye Caulker’ list because it has tasty and cheap Fry jacks. What is a ‘fry jack’? Fry jacks are a traditional dish of the Belizean cuisine. They are deep fried dough pieces served for breakfast, stuffed with different things. We tried them with eggs and bacon, cheese, chicken etc. Errolyn’s House of Fryjacks offers plenty of choices. A fry Jack costs approximately 2-3 euros and is very fulfilling. This place is a takeaway place too. There are 3-4 bar-style chairs though to have a seat.

Ice and Beans.

This place is probably the most popular place of our ‘best places to eat in Caye Caulker’ list. It is a coffee place with snacks and breakfast options. It is a very nice place to chill; Tables and hammocks on the sand while sipping a cold caramel Frappuccino. Not bad, right? We tried a few things, but our favourite snack were the mini donuts: a bag of hot, sugary mini donuts, perfect to accompany your coffee. We liked the coffee too! We tried from caramel latte, to mocha and coconut Frappuccino (and other things we don’t even remember any more).

Caye Caulker Bakery.

One more place for sugar lovers! While writing this sentence I can really feel the taste of the best cinnamon roll – ever. Even if you do not like the cinnamon rolls, you should try this one. By far the best thing they offer. The donuts were tasty too, but the cinnamon rolls were dreamy. You can’t miss this place! It is a bakery so there is no place to sit and it is open only in the morning. Let the smell guide you there and just enjoy the last place on our ‘best places to eat in Caye Caulker’ list.
